VLG recognizes that civil litigation does not always serve the client's best interests because of the time and costs involved.  We therefore constantly seek ways to resolve problems quickly and efficiently.  Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), including mediation, arbitration, and early settlement conferences, is one way to accomplish that goal.  With the ever-growing number of ADR options available, VLG ensures that its clients are well aware of ADR's benefits as a substitute for, or as a supplement to, litigation in the state and federal courts.

VLG's lawyers have successfully resolved numerous disputes in ADR forums, ranging from routine contract disputes between individuals, to complex multi-party real estate and business transactions.

VLG also provides additional services related to ADR, including drafting of dispute resolution agreements, enforcement of arbitration awards, advice on laws that govern arbitration, and counseling concerning the various ADR options.

We further recognize, however, that not every situation is suitable for ADR.  To that end, we work closely with our clients to determine how to best meet their needs, depending upon their objectives, the relationship between the parties to the dispute, the law and other factors.

In today's fast-paced business environment, problematic situations are practically inevitable.  Our professionals understand that litigation-related expense goes directly to the heart of a company's bottom-line.  We therefore are diligent in our attempts to control the cost of litigation.  Our attorneys provide litigation plans, budgets, and client-driven analysis on all aspects of a case to allow the client to better manage and resolve pending litigation.

In order to obtain the best possible solution when confronted with litigation, sound business judgment is a necessity.  This can only be accomplished by constant evaluation of the risks and benefits involved, as well as steady communication between the lawyer and client.  By keeping our clients timely advised on the status of their case, they are better able to achieve sound commercial objectives.

The true task in civil litigation is determining the best way to resolve the dispute.  Clients count on us to efficiently develop effective solutions.  To that end, our pretrial, discovery, and trial efforts are designed to solve clients' problems, not prolong them.  In litigation, as in everything else we do, we utilize a results-oriented approach based on our clients' objectives.  Guided by a solid understanding of our clients' objectives, we focus on winning in trial court litigation.

We appreciate that the best win is an early win.  We, however, also understand that no matter how diligent our efforts may be to dispose of a case before going to trial, the most compelling strategy for settling a case quickly is to let opponents know that we stand ready, if necessary, to win the case at trial.  This aggressive approach often brings an early and favorable resolution to the most disputed cases.

We guide our clients through every phase of litigation, from pre-suit risk management to court trials, formal proceedings before other administrative tribunals, and appellate review.  We also represent clients in dispute resolution outside the courtroom, using mediation, arbitration, negotiation and other techniques.

VLG's attorneys have successfully defended real estate brokers and agents, insurance brokers, corporate directors and officers, architects, and engineers.

VLG represents professionals under insurers' errors and omissions policies and also directly when the professionals are self-insured.  At the outset of representation, we work directly with the client to develop a strategy and budget for the case.  We then work aggressively towards a successful disposition.  A results-oriented, cost-effective approach to the defense is emphasized.
